Expanding Representation
We’re excited to announce that we are expanding the purview of our Women’s Rep board seat to be the Women/Trans/Femme/Non-Binary Rep. The goal of this role is to give organizers, race directors, and officials across New York State a dedicated person that can provide help and guidance to make bike racing more inclusive and expansive of all gender identities. NYSBRA’s founding goal is to serve the bike racing community, and this new position helps us better achieve that goal by dedicating time and resources to events across the state – giving the tools to organizers to create safer, more inclusive events and welcome bike racers of all kinds to the start line.

The CRCA Bear Mountain Classic crowns new Road Race Champions
On 7May, with incredibly challenging weather, CRCA’s Bear Mountain Classic was a test of not only a racer’s fitness & tactics, but their willpower as well. Everyone who stepped up to the starting line helped create an inspiring and positive race, and as Race Director I am enormously grateful for all the support from NYSBRA and CRCA members who were critical for making the day a success. Looking forward to seeing how Bear challenges us next year! – Alex Klafehn

NYSBRA Fat Bike Championship Results
Despite temps dipping to -7 and nearly a foot and a half of snow just 24 hours before the race, Saranac Lake’s Mt. Pisgah put on a Winter Bike show on 5February as athletes battled cold and soft snow for Empire State Winter Games and the first-ever dedicated Fat Bike race to award the 2021-2022 NYSBRA state titles. Cross country riders tackled a grueling 5K course featuring a climb halfway up the mountain followed by a zig zagging descent on the ski slope that caused its fair share of crashes into the soft snow. Dual Slalom action on mostly MTBs then kicked in under the lights as athletes battled head-to-head in a downhill sprint around banked turns, deep ruts and a series of rollers. A special shout out goes to the Village of Saranac Lake for a fabulous evening of racing.
